2006 Forum: Environmental Leadership through Service Learning

Service Learning is an educational re-form initiative that encourages student ownership in work that has a meaningful impact on the community while also meeting learning objectives. Building on the ongoing work of the MDI Water Quality Coalition to engage students in authentic environmental stewardship ser-vice learning work, the 2006 Hancock County Youth Watershed Forum will take a Service Learning leap by asking students what they want next year forum to look like..

In addition to sharing their watershed work with peers, students will participate in hands-on activities that give them the skills and confidence to continue their work as environmental stewards. Students will be asked to give feedback on their Youth Watershed Forum experience and take increasing ownership in subsequent years for creating a youth forum that meets the needs of young people involved in important watershed work.
